Navy veteran, DL Capt. Boyd Travis Nickell

April 28, 1939 — January 23, 2024

 


Notice of passing….retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Boyd Travis Nickell, age 84.  Captain Nickell joined Delta Air Lines 10-03-1966 and retired with Delta in 1999, based 030/ATL.  Widowed on May 10, 2023 with the passing of his wife Patricia, Captain Nickell is survived by his children and their families.

Boyd Travis Nickell

Boyd Travis Nickell, age 84, of Marietta, passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2024. 

Boyd was born in Wrigley, Tennessee, the oldest of 4 children of the late Marcus and Martha Nickell of Pulaski, TN.

 

Boyd received his bachelor's degree in 1961 from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute where he studied Mathematics and Engineering.   After being graduated, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he became a Naval Aviator.  Once his commitment to the Navy ended, he became a pilot for Delta Airlines where he retired in 1999.

 

Boyd married the late Patricia Marie Hardy from Pensacola in 1963 while attending Naval Flight Training at Pensacola NAS.  They were married for almost 60 years.  Patricia peacefully passed away on May 10th, 2023.  Together they had 4 sons: Jeff, Todd, Scott, and the late Kevin Nickell.

 

Boyd is survived by 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, 9 grandchildren, and 3 siblings: Jeff & Margarita Nickell (Lenor, Marcus and Claudia), Todd & Lisa Nickell (Ava), Scott & Andrea Nickell (Mia, Lydia, Wesley, and Hailey), Porter Nickell (son of the late Kevin Nickell), and his siblings Jane Taylor, Joan Bailey and John Mark Nickell.

 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on February 24th, 2pm at Woodstock Community Church (237 Rope Mill Rd, Woodstock, GA 30188).
