___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Melvin Blowers Obituary

Melvin Lynn Blowers passed over to glory peacefully at the Memory Care Center of Atlanta on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

Mr. Blowers was the first born of Raymond L. Blowers and Lois "Hummel" Blowers on November 14, 1948, in Phillipsburg, PA. Being the oldest of six children, he was a natural leader. He graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1966, where he had an outstanding academic and athletic career in Math and Science disciplines and football and wrestling. Mel attended the United States Air Force Academy and played football there, graduating in 1970 and earning his master's in engineering from the University of Illinois in 1972. He served in Germany and Fort Walton Beach, FL until 1976. Mel then became a pilot for Delta Airlines, mastering the 757 and larger jets from 1977-2013. He was one of the pilot crew on the initial flight from Atlanta to Shanghai and flew numerous transcontinental flights until his retirement in 2013.

He married Gloria Jean Upham in 1974. Together they served in the church and went on a great number of mission trips to Romania, India, and Africa, helping new pastors and churches become established and grow. Mel was beloved by his church family and was a great example of Christian love with his willingness to serve and help his fellow church members. He will forever be the "ideal" son, husband, brother, and Christian, looking for that blessed hope. Mel is safe in the arms of Jesus with life and vigor restored in Heaven forever and ever, Amen.

Mr. Blowers was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, Jeffrey B. of Bells Landing, PA; brother-in-law, Denny Lamoreau, Clearfield, PA; and dear sister-in-law, Janice Blowers, Gladstone, MO. His wife Gloria also preceded him on May 8, 2022. He is survived by two brothers, Raymond L Blowers and wife, Nancy, Michigan City; Larry D Blowers, Gladstone, MO; sister, Kathleen J Lamoreau, Clearfield, PA; and sister, Helen Rhine and John of Curwensville, PA; six nephews and one niece and their spouses and children, 5 great nephews and 5 great nieces.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 28, 2024, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Doug Merck will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Yonah Baptist Church Cemetery.
