Update on services:   Captain John Goodman on March 3rd, 2PM at Falcon Field

 This is a message from Captain John Goodman's wife Gerry on his Celebration of Life for those who would like to attend.

 I wanted to let you all know that we are going to have a Celebration of Life for John Goodman on Sunday, March 3rd., at 2PM with beer, at Hanger 28D at Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Ga.  The updated information is in the message below. Thank you!  Gerry Goodman 

 It turns out that Gerry Goodman had already been in contact with John’s Navy buddies and informed them that the party would start at 2 PM. So guess what,, the party will start at 2 PM.  We are making arrangements to have the Leo Giles gate open from about 1:45 PM to about 2: 45 PM to allow non-KFFC folks to get in without issue. There is a road is just past KIEWIT on Dividend Dr, and the gate is there.   There will be a balloon or something to mark the entrance. 

We will be planning a missing man four ship to open the ceremony. Then will have a mass gaggle of RVs make a pass over the hangar from west to east. John’s RV-10 will be in the lead. We will recover the flyers as rapidly as possible and get into the remembrance [party time] part of the ceremony. I will be asking the beer guys to bring a beer that John would enjoy to share. That includes just about any beer you can think of. As usual I will be encouraging guys to bring a six pack or four pack.  We have another surprise planned. It won’t be a surprise if I tell you what it is right now. Then food and wine. This is not a dinner or lunch function. Abby is providing wine, soft drinks and sandwiches. We are providing the beer. 

Now for the best part. We need a cleaning crew to get the hangar ready. Once we know the approximate number of guests, we will able to collect tables and chairs. Report time for cleaning duty is 12 pm on Saturday the 2nd of March. Everyone helping with the clean up will get a pat on the back which should keep the participants glowing in the dark for weeks to come.

Commander John E. Goodman USN (retired), 81, of Peachtree City, Ga. 

John Goodman passed away January 21, age 81, at Legacy Ridge in Peachtree City, Georgia.

 

John was born in Akron, Ohio, on November 2, 1942. Having lived in Fort Smith, Arkansas and Ardmore, Oklahoma before moving to Sherman, Tx., John graduated from Sherman High School in 1960 and from Austin College in 1964, also in Sherman, Tx.

 

He joined the Navy in 1964 and after OCS, went to flight training in Pensacola, Florida. He flew A-4s while on active duty and flew more than 200 missions over North Vietnam. He continued on in the Reserves at Dobbins AFB until 1984 where he flew the A-7.

 

He joined Southern Airways in 1971, which later became Republic and Northwest. He started on the Martin 404 and ended on the Boeing 747. He retired in 2002, He was very active in ALPA, serving as R&I Chairman and later LEC Chairman in Detroit.

 

As a long-time resident of Peachtree City moving here in 1977, he was very active in the Boy Scouts, having worked as a professional for the organization prior to his commercial flying: being Assistant Scout Master, Scout Master and member of the Flint River Regional Council. He also established an Aviation Explorer Troop at Southern Airlines.

 

After retirement, he built an AV-10, a 4-seater and was active in the RV Squadron at Falcon Field. He was an avid fly fisherman and brewer of beer.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gerry Goodman; children and spouses, Matthew P. Goodman (Kay) and Abigail Goodman Long; 4 grandchildren, Henry and Clio Long and Jacob and Lily Goodman; brothers Robert Goodman of Carrollton, Ga. and Jack Kaufman of Grand Cayman and sister Janee Goodman Gabona of Dallas, Tx as well as nephews and nieces.

 

A celebration of life, with beer, will be held in the future.
