___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

George Albert Wood, Jr. Obituary

George Albert Wood, Jr., 85, of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023. He was born to the late George Albert, Sr., and Margaret Lehman Wood on September 5, 1938, in Winchester, Massachusetts.

George proudly served as a pilot in the United States Army flying “Otters” in Vietnam. He worked for Delta Air Lines for 33 years getting people to their destinations before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed hiking, riding bikes, orienteering, gliding, motorcycles, and the Civil Air Patrol. He liked to be outdoors.

George lived life to the fullest, volunteering all the time, giving of himself whenever the need arose. He was a simple and very kind man, and helping others brought him joy.

George is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna Wood of Fayetteville; son, Shannon Wood of Lumbard, Illinois; daughter, April (Brian) Rumple of Daphne, Alabama; grandchildren, Laya and Ella; and his sister, Marilyn Fetzer of Burlington, Connecticut.

Family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Army Otter Caribou Association, www.aocalogbook.org.
