Obituary…………………….
Tyler Rhymes Gresham Jr. passed away on December
25, 2023, at the age of 75, surrounded by his family. His unconditional love
and devotion to his family knew no bounds, and his kindness, compassion, and
generosity touched the lives of all those he met.
Tyler was born in Atlanta, GA on February 11,
1948. He attended WF Dykes High School and was a proud graduate of the
University of Georgia and a member of Phi Delta Theta. Tyler served in the
National Guard before embarking on his long career in aviation. From an early age he had a passion for golf
and for flying.
He was a lifetime member of the Capital City Club
as well as a member of the Horseshoe Bend Country Club for 40 years, making
countless friends at both.
Tyler had his first solo flight at the age of 16.
He worked as a corporate pilot until he joined Delta Airlines in 1978,
attaining the rank of captain. He was given the honor of flying Delta’s final
DC-9 flight into Hartsfield Jackson Airport.
While flying and golf were a huge part of his
life, Tyler was perhaps best known for his selflessness and generosity. He was
a kind man, always going above and beyond to do all he could to help his
family, friends, or anyone who needed it.
He felt passionately about giving back in his
life. Habitat for Humanity was a cause close to his heart, and he volunteered
there for many years, building numerous houses and being honored with an award
for his service.
A celebration of Tyler’s life will be held on
Sunday, January 7 at the Horseshoe Bend Country Club. Family and friends are
invited to come anytime between 2 and 5pm to share memories and honor the
remarkable life of this extraordinary man.
Tyler is survived by his wife, Suzette; his son,
Garrett; his daughter-in-law, Chuck; his mother, Aileen; his sister, Diane
Sharpe; and his brother, Michael Gresham. He will be deeply missed but lovingly
remembered by all whose lives he touched.
