Wayland Brooks Obituary
WAYLAND BROOKS passed away peacefully on February
29, 2024. Wayland was born in Dallas, Texas on December 5, 1934. Wayland
attended Highland Park High School, Dallas, Texas; graduated from Allen
Military Academy, Bryan, Texas; and attended the University of Texas, Austin.
Wayland was a pilot for Delta Air Lines and flew
for them for 31 years, retiring in 1987.
He loved working on his farm in the Ozark
Mountains in Arkansas for 33 Years. Family interests brought him to Palo Pinto
County, Texas, which brought him to Possum Kingdom Lake. He soon learned to
love Possum Kingdom Lake.
In the earlier years, he enjoyed boating and
fishing. He soon became interested in ranching. He would spend days mowing and
working and his pleasure was looking back and seeing what had been
accomplished. Having family and friends out to the lake was the best lake
experience.
Wayland is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nita
Porter Brooks; four children Karen Markum, Donny Brooks (Traci), Shelly Johns
(Dan), and Dotchie Warren (James). Wayland is also survived by 8 GrandChildren:
Lee Markum (Lacey), Doug Markum (Patrice), Spencer Markum (Katie), Taylor
Johns, Mathew Johns, Amy Haskins, Ryan Brooks, and Reagan Brooks; Great
Granddaughter Rheyanna Markum, and Great Grandson Harrison Markum. Also, Godson
Brian Bolton, extended family members, and many friends.
Wayland was preceded in death by his parents Flora
Belle Smith and Douglas Brooks and his Aunt Doris Brooks. A Celebration of Life
will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Moore Funeral
Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas 76012. Burial will follow that
afternoon at Pickwick-McAdams Cemetery, Possum Kingdom Lake, Graford, Texas.
Pallbearers will be his Grandchildren. The family will receive guests at a
visitation on Wednesday, March 13th at Moore Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00
p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your charity
of choice. Wayland Brooks will be remembered as a Loving Husband, Father,
Grandfather, Great Grandfather and friend. His warmth, wisdom, joy, and sense
of humor he brought to every gathering will be deeply missed by all who knew
him.
