Captain Nelson began his commercial flying career 02-12-1973.  He is survived by his wife Lori.  Captain Nelson was 79 years of age at the time of his passing.

His Legacy : Michael Charles Nelson, 79, passed away on August 21, 2024. He was born on January 19, 1945, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Meredith Nelson and Helen (Cassaday) Nelson. Michael married the love of his life, Lori Jagielski, on July 23, 1981, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mike graduated from the University of Denver and then joined the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War. After his military service, he was hired to fly for North Central Airlines as a pilot. Through many mergers, Mike retired from Northwest Airlines after a career of 32 years. His passion was flying. Mike had his pilot's license before he obtained his driver's license. He also met his wife Lori, who had been a flight attendant for 40 years. Besides flying, he loved golf. Mike and Lori were founding members of Oak Pointe Country Club. Throughout the summer, he also enjoyed doing yard work and boating. Mike was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed

His Family : Mike will be missed by his loving wife, Lori Nelson; sister, Barbara Vanciu; nieces and nephews, Chris Vanciu, Peter (Kathy) Vanciu, Kendra Geeslin, Kimberly (Eric) Ringer, Doug Nelson, and David Nelson. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Meredith K Nelson and Helen Nelson; brother, Meredith R. Nelson; sister-in-law, Janet Nelson; and brother-in-law, Vance Vanciu.
