___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our PCN Flight West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Cdr Gregory Joseph Rose Obituary

Commander Gregory Joseph Rose, USN (Ret.), passed away on December 16, 2025.
After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1973, Greg continued his education at the California Institute of Technology, where he earned a master's degree in aeronautical engineering in 1974 while studying on a Guggenheim Scholarship. He went on to serve as a distinguished naval aviator, flying the F-4 Phantom II and F-14 Tomcat with VF-33, the Tarsiers. Greg was a graduate of both the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, from which he graduated in 1980.
Following his military service, Greg spent a brief time as a test pilot with Northrop Grumman before beginning a second career as a pilot with Delta Air Lines.
Beyond his professional achievements, Greg was a devoted husband and a loving, proud father. He cared deeply about the communities in which he lived and generously gave his time and talents to improve them. He was passionate about his work with Habitat for Humanity, where he devoted many hours to building and improving homes for others. A passionate golfer, Greg spent many years enjoying and refining his game.
Greg is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son and daughter-in-law, Commander Scott Rose and Commander Kallie Rose; his grandchildren, Liam and Beth; and his brother, Gary.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
