___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our PCN Flight West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Stanley Welton Johns, age 78, passed away on March 8, 2026.

Born on October 10, 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia, Stanley lived a life defined by curiosity, adventure, and a passion for flight.

His love of aviation began as a teenager at Charlie Brown Field, where he earned his pilot's license. This set his course for a remarkable career in "the wild blue yonder." He went on to matriculate at Auburn University, earning an Aviation Management degree in 1970. Delta Air Lines hired Stanley in 1973, marking the take-off of a thirty-one year career jetting across five continents.

His deep value of learning and inquisitive mind lead him to better understand how the world works from quanta to the sublime expanse promised by the night's sky.

Stanley is survived by his sister, Melva Dianne Johns; his son, Jasen Welton Johns; his daughter, Anda Maria Johns Mason; his grandson, Hayden Wesley Mason; and his granddaughter, Celia Helen Mason.

In lieu of formal services, Captain Johns will be returned to the sea. Family and friends are invited to share their memories and condolences. Let us carry forward his best virtues, and retell the stories of his life he would have wanted told.

Donations honoring Stanley may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
