USAF veteran, DL pilot Spencer Maddux
March 22, 1937 - July 16, 2026
Following his military service, Spencer Maddux
joined Delta Air Lines 10-02-1967 and was based Atlanta. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, and by
his sons and their families.

Spencer MADDUX Obituary
Spencer Maddux passed away peacefully on July 16,
2026, at the age of 89.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Mary and Major
General Harold Maddux, Spencer grew up moving frequently across the country as
part of a military family.
A 1959 graduate of West Point, Spencer served as a
Captain in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command. He met Carolyn Butler, a
teacher in San Diego. They married on April 11, 1965, sharing 61 years of
marriage.
After his military service, Spencer worked as a
Delta Air Lines pilot, earned a law degree, served as a school business
manager, and taught high school physics. In retirement in Big Canoe, Georgia,
he organized the Dawsonville Democrats as Chairman and served on the Dawson
County Board of Elections.
Spencer enjoyed hiking, gardening, and spending
time with his poodles: Shadow, Jesse, and Beau. He will be remembered for his
sharp intellect, big laugh, and willingness to help others.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his sons,
Ward (Lisa) and Robert (Renee); six grandchildren: Zach, Brock, Lila, Rory,
Rex, and Dean; his brother, Roger (Marie); and extended family.
Family members and friends are invited to attend a
gathering celebrating Spencer's life on November 22, 2026 at The Overlook Room
at the Sconti Clubhouse in Big Canoe from 2 PM until 5 PM. A private interment
will take place at The National Cemetery in Canton, GA on November 23, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial
contribution to either the Big Canoe Animal Rescue or The Habitat for Humanity
in Jasper, GA.
