Hayes S. McCallum

Richfield, MN

 

Hayes Shipman McCallum, 75, passed away after a courageous six month battle with brain cancer. Hayes was born in Jackson, MS, to Hayes Shipman and Annie Lyda Heard McCallum. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marcia; brother, James (Danie) of Tucson, AZ; brother in law, Ken Thornton (Julia) of Las Vegas, NV, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins from the Idaho and Florida areas.

 

Hayes graduated from Provine High School and received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Miss. State University in 1961. He later received his MBA from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA in 1970.

 

Hayes's dream through his entire life was to fly airplanes. In 1966 Hayes's dream was realized when he began his flying career as a pilot for Northwest Airline (NWA). He retired in 1999, but continued as a training instructor for five years.

 

Hayes continued his involvement in the aviation field through his co ownership of Environ Laboratories, an international known engineering testing laboratory, in Minneapolis, MN.

 

Hayes's life was filled with challenges and opportunities, which he always met with a smile. He was a unique person who truly loved everyone and was loved by many. He was respected for his kind spirit and gentle manner.

 

Services are scheduled for Saturday, July 19 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, visitation at 10:00, funeral at 11:00 and interment at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Blvd immediately following the service.

 

The family is receiving friends at the Catering by George's at Reservoir Pointe in Ridgeland starting at 3:00. Please come and share your experiences and fun stories of Hayes's life.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials to your  charity of choice   or Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, to be used for educational training of physicians at Mayo Clinic, in memory of Hayes S. McCallum.

News has been received with the passing of RNPA member retired NWA pilot Captain Hayes Shipman McCallum Jr., age 75.  Captain McCallum joined Northwest Airlines 04-11-1966 and retired in 1999.  Colleagues write that Captain McCallum began his commercial flying career as a “Second Officer on the 707/320 based Seattle, mostly flying military airlift charters to Southeast Asia. Hayes later became an instructor/check airman on a number of NWA aircraft.”  Schooled as an engineer, Captain McCallum graduated from the University of Mississippi with a BS in electrical engineering in 1961 and received his MBA degree from the University of Washington in 1970.  He and wife Marcia developed a very successful aerospace industry testing firm and remained active with EnvironLab   http://www.environlab.com/

Robert Dale Kehs

Kehs, Robert Dale age 78 of Rosarito, Mexico; formerly of Eden Prairie, MN died peacefully on July, 9 2014. Bob was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 21, 1935 and grew up in Buffalo, NY. He joined the US Marine Corp and was commissioned as Captain and piloted the A-1 Skyraider before his 35 years of service to NWA. He was well known among pilots for his love of flying and his dedication to the Air Line Pilots Association. He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia Dombrosky, children Kevin Kehs, Kathy (Jim) Strahan and Matthew Kehs, grandchildren Lucas Kehs, Maxwell Kehs, Marcus Kehs and Lily Strahan. A celebration of his life was held in Baja Mexico. If you wish to make a contribution in Bob's memory, his charity of choice is the Flying Samaritans, P.O. Box 439030, San Diego, CA 92143.

Many of Bob's friends and family said goodbye to Bob yesterday afternoon as his ashes were spread over the Pacific.  At the same time  over the waters of Cancun, a Volaris Airline's Captain, a friend of Bob's and unable to attend his send off, received permission to descend to 10,000 feet  to honor Bob by doing a fly over, after advising the passengers of its purpose.  Thought you might like to hear the end of Bob's story.

David Behncke Lifetime Achievement Award

The first ever Dave Behnke Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Robert Kehs from Northwest.

The United MEC recommended Captain Robert D. Kehs, a retired Northwest Airlines pilot, to be considered as the first recipient of the David Behncke Life time Achievement Award. This award was established by the Executive Council to give special recognition to ALPA members who, during the course of his or her career, have made an extraordinary contribution to the Association, its members and to trade unionism. Nominations for this award are made to the Executive Council by any MEC other than the one the nominee is employed by. This nomination must then be unanimously approved by the Executive Council before it is bestowed on the individual.

Year 2000: The ALPA Board of Directors presented the first David L. Behncke Lifetime Achievement Award to Capt. Though Bob was not a great correspondent, your address was the one he kept in his address book. And so, you are the one to whom he wanted  to say good-bye when he passed. He died as he lived his life on his own terms without causing too much of a fuss. He didn't wish a grand funeral with a lot of empty talk, rather he asked that you raise a glass of your favorite beverage in a toast to him and wish him a swift journey. He was exceptionally proud of the work he did with ALPA during his career and cherished the award he received.

Moira Gwendolyn Roberts, 82

Marblehead, MA & Ozona, FL — Moira Gwendolyn Roberts, 82, beloved wife of the late Edwin "Ted" Campbell Roberts, passed away from complications following surgery on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Florida Hospital, Tarpon Springs, Fla., surrounded by her loving family.

 

Born on November 22, 1931, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late John H. Mowat and Edna M. Mowat. Moira graduated from secondary school and then attended Havergal College in Toronto.

 

On November 24, 1951, she married Ted Roberts, and soon after they began a journey with the United States Air Force. Upon completion of his tour of duty as an F-84 pilot, Ted became an airline pilot and flew for Northeast and Delta Airlines. During this time, Moira was an active participant in the Delta Wives Association. Moira was also very active in the Danvers Garden Club and Girls Scouts of America. An avid collector of antiques, Moira was the owner of the "Country Mouse," an antique shop in Marblehead, Mass. As a resident of Danvers, and later Marblehead, she was an active, 23-year member of the Boston Yacht Club.

 

Moira was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an excellent mother to her children, whom she took great pride in raising. In addition to her late husband, Ted Roberts, recently celebrating 63 years together, she is survived by a daughter, Diane Adams and her husband, Michael, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and three sons, Edwin C. Roberts Jr. and his wife, Lucy, of West Ossipee, N.H., John R. Roberts and his wife, Cathy, of San Antonio, Texas, and Richard W. Roberts and his wife, Melissa, of Coral Springs, Fla. Moira was also "Grandma" to eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

 

The memorial will take place at the family residence in Canada.

Marblehead, MA / Ozona, FL — Edwin "Ted" Campbell Roberts, beloved husband of Moira G. Roberts, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Sea Coast Hospice in Palm Harbor, Florida surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 19, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Edwin C. and Josephine A. Roberts. Following his graduation from Howe Military School, he attended Alma College and Michigan State University. In 1952, he joined the United States Air Force as an aviation cadet and received his pilot wings (Class 53B) at Webb Air Force Base on March 17, 1953. Second Lieutenant Roberts reported to his first duty assignment as an F-84F fighter pilot at Turner AFB, Georgia.

As a captain and Korean War veteran, Ted was initially hired as a pilot with Northeast Airlines. After Northeast combined with Delta Airlines, Ted advanced his career and eventually retired as a B-767 Captain after 32 years of service. As a resident of Danvers and later Marblehead, MA, he was an active 23-year member of the Boston Yacht Club.

Ted was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an excellent father to his children, with whom he took great pleasure in raising. In addition to his wife, Moira (Mowat) Roberts, recently celebrating 63 years together, he is survived by a daughter, Diane Adams and her husband, Michael, of Palm Harbor, FL; and three sons, Edwin C. Roberts, Jr. of West Ossipee, NH, John R. Roberts and his wife, Cathy A., of San Antonio, TX and Richard W. Roberts and his wife, Melissa, of Coral Springs, FL. Ted was also "Papa" to eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Life Legacy.......................

 

John Randolph McDaniel, Jr., 90, passed away on Monday, July 7, at Duke University Hospital. He was born in Miami, FL, on the Fourth of July in 1924 to the late John Randolph McDaniel and the late Lillian Maude Buck McDaniel. He served as a Navy pilot in WW II, and flew for National Airlines and Pan Am until his retirement.

 

He is survived by his wife, Athena McDaniel; daughter, Caroline McDaniel; and his son, Gregory McDaniel and daughter-in-law, Heather, 2 grandchildren and his sister Evelyn McDaniel Ward.

 

The family will have a funeral service at Clements Funeral Chapel Thursday at 5:30pm. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 12 at Miami Memorial Park Cemetery in Miami FL, at 1:00pm.

Patricia Ann Storm, 76, of Silver Lake, passed away peacefully Monday, July 7, 2014, at Brookside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Care Center.

 

She was born in Rice Lake, Wis., on May 28, 1938, the daughter of the late Perry and Marion (Taft) Erickson.

 

Patricia worked as Crew Scheduler for Northwest Airlines for over 30 years.  She loved fishing, gambling and was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan.

 

Surviving are many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her son, Tony; and her beloved longtime friend, Jo; two sisters and one brother.

 

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, July 11th at the Proko Funeral from 6 p.m. until the time of Service at 6:30 p.m.
