This news has just come to us, word with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Damon Jewell Frost Jr., age 89.  Captain Frost joined Delta Air Lines 06-03-1957 and retired with Delta in 1991, and was based Atlanta.  He is survived by his wife Jackie along with his children, and his grand- and great grandchildren.

Obituary:   Damon J Frost

Damon J. Frost “Frosty" , 89 of Gainesville, GA passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020.

 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jackie Harris Frost, and children Jeff Frost, Jamie (Vic) Williams, David (Leah) Frost, and Roger (Stacy) Frost. He is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

 

Damon was born on July 31, 1931 to Damon J. Frost, Sr. and Jessie Campbell Frost in Middlesboro, KY. He served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict, and then flew for Delta Airlines for 34 years. After retirement, he was involved in Community Theater.

 

He was a member of Gainesville United Methodist Church.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice Group at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

 

There will be a Memorial Service announced at a later date.

Obituary :  Anthony Jamieson BALDWIN

Passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2020, in the home he had built and lived in since 1978. An Apple Valley resident of over 50 years, he proudly raised and unconditionally supported a wildly loving family alongside his wife, Glenda Guthrie Baldwin. A fun-seeking fraternity brother and one-time Treasurer of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house, freshman basketball player and graduate of The University of Arizona (Class of '62), he went on to serve as a Naval Officer before retiring as a Northwest Airlines pilot after 32 years of dedicated flying. An avid golfer in his prime and his poker skills helped put him through college. His poker buddies would call him a gentle giant, and until the end he would never miss a game at the Days Inn over pizza and Sprite. To know him is to love him, whether you were the cashier at Kwik Trip or one of the many athletes he coached throughout the years. His stories were unmatched, along with his kindness and dry sense of humor. We will be forever missing him in person, while always knowing he undoubtedly lives on through our memories and in our hearts. The family asks that you share photos, stories and/or respects on the guestbook. A memorial golf tournament is being planned for his birthday weekend in the spring (May 2021), in hopes that Crystal Lake Golf Course will host. USAF veteran, WA/DL Capt. Richard ‘Dick’ Boyle

December 26, 1930 ~ December 3, 2020

 

Notification with the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain Richard Gordon Boyle, age 89.  Captain Boyle joined Western Airlines 03-14-1966 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1990, based SLC at the time of his retirement.  He is survived by many dear extended family members, close friends and aviation colleagues.  Captain Boyle’s most recent address is noted in whitepages as  PO Box 11975, Zephyr Cove, Nevada.

Obituary :  Richard G. 'Dick' Boyle

 

Zephyr Cove - Richard G. 'Dick' Boyle turned westbound for his final flight on December 3, 2020 from COVID pneumonia with underlying conditions. Dick was born December 26, 1930 in Pennsylvania, to Gordon D. and Virginia B. Boyle, née Dinger. The family relocated when Dick was a youngster to southern California. He later received a Bachelor of Business Administration from USC. Like so many young men of that time, he entered the United States Air Force, where he received his flight training. He continued to serve in the Air National Guard upon completion of his active duty service. After leaving active duty, he was hired by Western Airlines in 1966, where he flew until retiring from Delta Airlines in 1990.

 

Family and friends were always amazed at Dick's passion for life. He raced cars - once with Steve McQueen. He was particularly proud of his Ferrari which he brought back from Italy in the 60s. As a cyclist he toured the world, including North America, and his mileage totaled in the thousands. On one tour, he rode a segment of the famously difficult Tour de France route - with a fractured hand. Dick also rode three of the five climbs that comprise the California 'Death Ride' not just once, but several times. 'Tough nut' described Richard Boyle.

 

Hiking, skiing and spending time in the outdoors were also favorite pursuits. He was particularly proud of his climb to the top of the Matterhorn.

 

Bikes and cycling were the central focus of Dick's later years. He helped a friend get started in a Lake Tahoe bike shop, and taught cycling lessons. Dick taught many kids how to ride a bike. Generously sharing his two-wheel passion came naturally to Dick.

 

Dick was an avid collector of books, magazines and miniature liquor bottles in addition to Western Airlines memorabilia. He was particularly proud of his original editions of Edgar Rice Burroughs 'Tarzan' series.

 

He was predeceased by his parents, son James G. Boyle, and sister Virginia Lynn Potter. He is survived by his brother David E. Boyle, son Robert Boyle, stepson Robert W. Smith and Barbara, Robert's wife, stepdaughter Sharon M. Smith, and granddaughters Amanda and Claudia Smith. He will be missed by a large extended family in Texas, Georgia, Illinois and Nevada, in addition to many friends from the airlines and the Air National Guard.

Obituary :  Phillip Carey Elliott

The funeral services honoring and celebrating the life of Captain Phillip "Phil" Carey Elliott, 63, of Enid will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 2 p.m. The Celebration will be held at Emmanuel Enid with Pastors Wade Burleson and Dan Heath officiating. Masks will be required at the service. The United States Air Force Military rites will follow in the Woodring Regional Airport. Phil was born on August 19, 1957 in Hampton, Virginia to Ira "Bill" and Louise Sprenger Elliott and received new wings on November 18, 2020 with his family by his side. Phil was raised and educated in Little Rock, Arkansas. After graduating from Little Rock Central High School in 1975, he entered the military service at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He graduated as a member of the class of 1979 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. On June 16, 1979, Phil married the love of his life and best friend, Susan Paden Elliott. As his first military assignment, Phil attended Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. He was awarded an Assignment to the Fairchild Republic A-10, "Thunderbolt II" (Warthog). Phil earned his wings upon graduation as a fighter-qualified, top graduate. Following graduation from pilot training at Vance, Phil traveled to Holloman Air force Base for Lead-in Fighter Training and graduated as "Top Gun". He then moved to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona learning to fly the single-seat A-10 attack aircraft. At the completion of this training, he was assigned to the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing "Flying Tigers" at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana. After this assignment, Phil returned to Vance as an instructor Pilot and made Enid his home to raise his family.

 

After completing his full-time service commitment to the Air Force, Phil began his 34 year career with Delta Air Lines. He began his Delta career on the Boeing 727 as a flight engineer, flying as Captain on the MD-88/90, Boeing 737, 757/767 with his final assignment as Captain on the Boeing 777, Delta's flagship international aircraft.

 

In 2006, Phil's love for aviation began a new chapter with the purchase of a Beechcraft A-36 Bonanza, N711HR. Phil and Susan, along with the entire family, enjoyed many hours of travel and adventure in their own personal airplane. Phil (Mr. Positive) loved athletics and coaching his children, Amber and Kurt and their teammates in their various activities. Phil was an avid bike rider. Attending family activities and flying were his passion. "Pops" especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, Allie and Abby, attending their many activities.

 

Phil is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan, children, Amber Schrantz (Doug) of Edmond, Okla., and Kurt Elliott (Megan Traynor) of Oklahoma City, sister, Margaret Rector (James) of Tullahoma, Tennessee, brother, Chris Elliott (JoAnna) of Terre Haute, Indiana, granddaughters, Allie and Abby Schrantz of Edmond, Okla., mother-in-law, Mary Jo Paden of Little Rock, Arkansas, brother-in-law, Scott Paden (Lisa) of Little Rock, Arkansas, aunt, Margarete Wildi (John) of Whitewater, Wis., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Phil was preceded in death by his father, Ira "Bill" Elliott, mother, Louise Sprenger Elliott, and father-in-law, Henry Paden.

 

Memorial donations may be made in Phil's honor to the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research (MFMER) - Sarcoma Division with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Obituary :  Gregory Lathan

Gregory Hymes Lathan, 61, of Waikoloa HI died November 16, 2020 in Waikoloa. He was born Sept. 20, 1959, in Gastonia, N.C. Gregory served our country in the Navy and worked as a pilot captain for Delta Airlines.

 

He is survived by spouse, Elizabeth; sons, Luke Lathan of Hudson Falls, N.Y. and Eathan Lathan of Deerfield, IL; daughter, Carrie (Phillip) Cleveland of Olympia, WA; brother Jeffrey (Kim) Lathan, of Belmont, N.C.; two grandchildren; and numerous cousins.

 

Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary.
