Obituary  :  Paul Douglas Pappas

Paul Douglas Pappas was born May 1, 1960 to Paul and Juna Pappas. He died February 10th in his home with complications from COVID.

 

Paul graduated from Wooster High School and then attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He went on to become a commercial airline pilot and ultimately a captain for Delta Air Lines.

 

Paul was passionate about motorcycles, especially dirt bikes. He created and operated a small business that focused on motocross memorabilia. His greatest love, however, was being a father to his two daughters Zoe and Gabrielle Pappas. He was a wonderful father, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

 

He is survived by his daughters, his ex-wife Jennifer Pappas, sisters Elaine Sargent (Gary) and Janean Priest (Richard), nephews Patrick Sargent and Morgan Priest, nieces Juna and Madison Priest. We will all miss you Paulie. A memorial service is not planned at this time.

Notification with the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain Joseph Anthony Peterman, age 84.  Captain Peterman joined Western Airlines 03-21-1966 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1990 as noted in his obituary below.   He is survived by his partner Sharon, his daughter and his grandchildren plus many more dear family members and friends.

Obituary  :  Joseph Anthony Peterman passed away peacefully at home on 1/28/2021, at the age of 84.  Joe was born and raised in Pine Lawn, Missouri - a suburb of St. Louis. He had a very adventurous spirit. He spent many hours of his youth boating out on the Mississippi River in a powered canoe, camping during the winter season and spending time with his dog Smokey. He took long bike rides to the Lambert-St. Louis Airport to watch the planes come and go ... always dreaming of flying above the clouds.

Joe joined the USMCR in 1956, entered into the Naval Flight School as a Cadet and left the military in 1964 as 1st Lieutenant. He flew on many unpublished missions that included China, Vietnam and Cuba.  He continued his flying career by joining the team at Western Airlines in 1966. He stayed on board when the company merged with Delta Air Lines and retired in 1990. Between the Marine Corp and Western / Delta, Joe had the opportunity of flying all over the world! Because of his experience, he was an avid reader of world history, politics, religion and current events.

Joe moved his residency from the Ukiah area to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2002, but always found time to travel back to Redwood Valley, CA to spend time with his life partner Sharon Deckman. They enjoyed RV traveling from coast to coast with the ultimate road trip to Alaska - exploring the countryside from the ground instead of by air.

Joe is survived by his life partner of 22 years, Sharon Lynn, his wonderful fur ball companion Tommie Latte', his daughter Gina Buchner, son-in-law Bill Buchner of Yuba City, CA, granddaughter Kayla Lewis of Auburn, CA, grandson Anthony Buchner of Pullman, WA, and his sister Fran Wood, brother-in-law Jim Wood of Spring Hill, KS. His brothers

Eugene Peterman, Tom Peterman, sisters Ann Peterman, Helen Phippen and Evelyn Peterman preceded his death.

We are so grateful to all of our friends, family, doctors and Hospice of Ukiah for being a part of Joe's support system over the last many years. A very special thank you to Leah Middleton RN, Susan Klimist-Zingo PAC, Glenda Box LVN, Michael Young DO and James O'Dorisio MD of Ukiah, CA, Patrick Delvin MD and Robert Anderson MD of Santa Rosa, CA.

Obittuary  :

Philip Michael Ruth, 74, of Holland, formerly of Jacksonwald, passed away October 2, 2020 in Philadelphia.

 

Born on August 3, 1946 in Reading, he was a son of the late Walter and Helen (Ketner) Ruth. Philip was a Penn State Main graduate, Class of 1968. He then started his career with the US Navy, where he was trained to be a pilot. At retirement, he held the rank of Captain.

 

Philip was a Commercial Pilot and started his career first with the prestigious Pan-Am and was with them through the glamorous years of jet setting. Later he was employed with Delta Airlines until retirement.

 

Philip liked to collect classic cars and enjoyed sports, specifically Penn State.

 

Survivors include his cousins and longtime friend, David Fountain and his wife, Maria of Festerville, PA.

 

Philip will be inurned with his family at Charles Evan Cemetery, Reading. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading is honored to assisted the family.

Notification with the passing of retired Pan Am/Delta pilot Captain Norman Duane Burley, age 84.  I believe Captain Burley joined Pan American 01-24-1966 (roster is hard to read) and retired with Delta Air Lines.  Widowed two years ago with the passing of his wife Rosemary,  Captain Burley is survived by his daughter, his granddaughter and his great granddaughter.

Obituary  :  Norman Burley, 81 of Herrin, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2021.

Born Friday, Sept. 1, 1939, in Michigan to Charles and Mable (Dockem) Burley, he is survived by a daughter, Dixie Sharp of Edwardsville, granddaughter Rhiannon and husband Nicholas Harvey of Godfrey, Ill., and great-granddaughter Olivia Harvey. He also has three sisters, Pearl Armstrong, Donna Carlyle and Doris Rude, and one brother, Lloyd, all of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Rosemary Burley.

Norman was an airline pilot for Pan Am and Delta. He retired in 1994 and then worked as a real estate agent for Coldwell Bankers, and then opened Dream Flight Powered Parachutes.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at Van Natta Funeral Home, Herrin IL. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., preceding the funeral.

Rosemary Burley, 81 of Herrin, Illinois died on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at her home in Herrin, Illinois.

She was born Sunday, July 18, 1937 in Herrin, she was the daughter of the late William Lang and the late Vida Coon. She was the wife of Norman Burley he survives of Herrin.

Surviving is daughter, Dixie Sharp of Edwardsville, IL. i granddaughter, Rhiannon and Nicholas Harvey of Godfrey, IL and 1 great grand daughter, Olivia Harvey. She also has 1 brother William of MI. Obituary  :  John (Jack) Hubbard

Silverdale , Washington - John Edward Hubbard (Jack), long time resident of Fox Island and Gig Harbor passed away peacefully on Jan 29, 2021.

He was born May 5, 1935 in Colorado Springs, CO to John and Mary Katherine Hubbard (Lynch). He grew up on a ranch in Hugo, Co. It was here as a teenager that he began flying crop dusters for a local rancher. After graduating from Hugo High School in 1953 he attended University of Colorado. He and a college friend moved to East Texas where he worked and again took up flying small aircraft. In 1958 his draft number was called. He was able to hold off the army and with his flight experience instead joined the air force where he became a pilot and eventually as a wing standardization officer trained many pilots landing on every landing strip in the Aleutian Islands, AK. He got out of the Air Force as a Major in 1966 and remained a reservist, which led to more experiences after being called up in the late 1960's. At the same time he began his career as a commercial airline pilot with Pan American. This career took he and his family all over the world many times. They settled into a cabin on Fox Island in 1971 where the family spent the next 30 years.

He was an avid and excellent golfer (every day) and was the mens club champion at Gold Canyon Golf Resort in AZ in 1999 and then again at Gig Harbor Golf Club when he was 75 years old. What a day!

Jack was always willing to lend a helping hand, from helping his kids with home renovations, to service to his community and country. Jack was well traveled and could converse on any subject. He was a people person and well liked by those that had the pleasure of meeting him. The one thing that stood out was that not only was Jack interesting, he was sincerely interested in you.

Jack's positivity was infectious. Many many many laughs and always love.

He is survived by his wife Madge, sons Jordan Hubbard and wife Pat of Boulder Creek, CA, Johnny Hubbard and wife Pam of Kingston, WA and daughter Kacy Patton and husband Dan of Chico, WA. Grandfather to Maggie and Cash Hubbard, Ciara Watkins and Cassidy Patton and great grandsons Harbor Ray and Gunner Jack, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

A Celebration of Life is being planned on an unspecified date this summer due to COVID. Raise a toast to him on his birthday May 5.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, some places he supported are the American Legion, Salvation Army and the Kitsap County Food Bank.
