From family we have received this news with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Allen Mitchell Ice, age 76.  Captain Ice joined Delta Air Lines 01-20-1977 and retired with Delta based ATL/030.  He is survived by his wife Carol, his daughter Angela, and his brother retired WA/DL pilot Capt. Bill Ice plus many more dear friends and family members.

Obituary :  Allen Mitchell Ice, age 76, of Lighthouse Point, Florida passed away October 16th, 2021. He passed away at Holy Cross Hospital after a long battle with congestive heart failure. Beloved husband of 40 years to Carol. Cherished Father of Angela; Father-in-law of Brad; Grandfather of Ava; Brother of Bill; Brother-in-law of Renate, Chris, Dave, Mike, Wendy, Julie, Clark, Sam, Bill, Rosie, Shelly Y, Manny, Pat, and Shelly M; Uncle of Jared, Bekka, Amanda, Drew, Michael, Nicole, Gina, Abby, Allie, Maggie, Jack, Charlie, Lily, and Cece.

 

He was an alumnus of the Illini and was a sports enthusiast. He was a Vietnam Airforce veteran and had a longtime career as a pilot of Delta and Net jets. Al was a beloved and respected friend to all who knew him. His kindness, decency and gentleness will remain in our hearts always!

 

The family will be holding a service on Deerfield Beach, Saturday, October 23rd at 3:30 pm. There will be a celebration of life at JB’s on the Beach after the ceremony from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Obituary : Forrest ‘Glenn’ Rhodes

Forrest “Glenn” Rhodes, a retired Pan Am and Delta pilot and resident of Wapiti, Wyoming passed away on Oct. 15, 2021, at the age of 83.

 

Glenn was born in Reno, Nevada, to Louise Ferguson and Forrest Leroy Rhodes on Sept. 20, 1938. 

 

Glenn’s life was filled with adventure. After a family move to France, Glenn attended the Paris American High School. During that time, he frequently visited the jazz clubs of Paris where his love of music, especially jazz, was forged. Further education included a two-month German language program in Heidelberg, Germany, and three years as a chemistry major at the University of Nevada, Reno.

 

Glenn experienced the life of an “itinerant musician” in Reno and the San Francisco Bay Area as a young man. Then after a short time working in the chemical industry, Glenn began his career as a pilot, eventually flying for Pan Am.

 

He was proud to be part of the Pan Am family and considered that part of his life a true blessing. He flew all over the world and worked to become “the best with the best.” After Delta Airlines bought out Pan Am, Glenn was able to continue flying as a captain with Delta until his retirement.

 

Glenn lived across the U.S. in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, California, New Mexico, Washington and Montana, but he retired to the mountains of Wapiti where he never tired of the beautiful views. He was an environmentalist and outdoor enthusiast; he liked fishing, camping and hiking, spending much of his earlier days in Glacier National Park. But his favorite hobby was, without a doubt, hunting. Glenn also had a great love and appreciation for Native American culture.

 

As a young adult he became very involved in the Blackfeet and Kainai/Blackfoot Nations. Additionally, he enjoyed reading, music, cooking, and his collections. He loved his dogs, and he especially loved his friends and family. Glenn was loved by his friends and family and will be greatly missed.

 

Glenn is preceded in death by his brother Larry Rhodes, and his son Brandon Rhodes.

 

He is survived by his children Eric Rhodes (former spouse, Michelle) and Rebecca (Arne) Flaten; stepchildren Heather Damewood, Brian (Tammy) Clore; grandchildren Amanda, Erika, Gabriella, Natasha, Lara; step-grandchildren Jenaya, Victoria, Josiah; brother Jeffrey Rhodes; adoptive Kainai/Blackfoot brother Alfred Standing Alone; former spouse Patricia and former spouse Marilyn; his Wapiti “family,” Woody, Catherine, Ellie and Alex Wooden, and Jim and Madonna Zumbo; and his beloved dog Zeke.

 

Visitation will be at Ballard Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, at 1 p.m. with funeral services starting at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Please wear a mask to this service. Committal services will take place at Riverside Cemetery.

Obituary : Lipika Mohanty Kearns

 Lipika Mohanty died in the evening of Sept. 20, 2021 at her home and that of her husband: Kendall Kearns, in Fayetteville, Ga.

 

Lipika was the daughter of Dr. Rama and Mrs. Anasuya Mohanty. Dr. and Mrs.

 

Mohanty, Lipika and her brother, Bijoy, were originally from Orissa, India. Dr. Mohanty was recruited to the United States to get his PhD and to teach nuclear physics. He taught at Berkley, NYU and lastly at LSU. The family then lived for a number of years in Baton Rouge, La.

 

Kendall is the son of Dot and Lyles Kearns, Lyles having died in 2016. Jeffri and Tommy Adkins of Charlottesville, Va. and Leigh and John Owens of Chapel Hill, NC are Kendall's sisters and brothers-in-law. They have seven children and five grandchildren to call Kendall "uncle." Dot's sister, Faye Kendall Wright, also has a large family of "grands" who also can call Kendall "uncle".

 

Kendall and Lipika met in 1990, when both became employees of Delta Airlines, Kendall as a pilot, having just completed a tour in the U.S. Air Force, and Lipika, as an airline stewardess. They originally lived in and flew out of New York City, but later moved to Fayetteville, Ga. to fly then from the Atlanta airport. They married on May 1, 2010 in the garden of a retired Episcopal priest whom they met while out walking with their beloved Maltese dog, Madison, and the priest's dog.

 

Lipika seemed healthy and energetic, but went to the doctor because her eyes became jaundiced. The doctor told Kendall that day, that that almost always was an indication that cancer was somewhere in the body. Indeed it was. Nothing seemed to halt its spread. They went numerous times to Emory, Pittsburg, Pa., the Mayo Clinic and elsewhere for explorations and treatments, and Lipika worked through rounds and rounds of hard chemotherapy but to no avail. The cancer spread into the liver and lungs and grew rapidly.

 

Kendall's sister, Jeffri, spent the last two weeks of Lipika's life with her and Kendall. Jeffri was a nurse by first profession and in recent years worked with Hospice in Charlottesville, Va., a great comfort for her to be there in those last days.

 

Lipika and Kendall's home was recently filled with neighbors and people who came from many places to honor the couple and to attend the traditional Hindu cremation ceremony. Jeffri's husband, Tommy and Leigh Kearns Owens' husband, John, and neighbors kept food available for all guests during the days following Lipika's passage.

 

While sadness was so poignant, love and human warmth predominated throughout the very large and diverse gathering of family, friends, work colleagues and neighbors. A memorable time in many lives.

Obituary : Colonel Paul R. Wietbrock, USAFR,  57, of Lowell, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021.  He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lisa; children Sarah and John; parents, Ronald and Judy; sister in law, Susie; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

 

He was recently preceded in death by his brother, David.

 

Paul was a graduate of Lowell High School, Indiana State University ROTC, and Embry Riddle Aeronautical Univ.  He was a member of Lowell’s American Legion, VFW, Lion’s Club and Trinity Lutheran Church.  Paul was a Captain with Delta Airlines since 2000.  He served in the United States Air Force for 30 years, 12 years active duty, followed by 18 years in the Air Force Reserves.  

 

Paul dedicated his life to GOD, family, Country and friends.  His zest for life and sense of humor was contagious.  He had a smile for everyone. To be with Paul was a guaranteed good time.

 

Visitation Thursday, September 16 from 4-8 at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lowell, with Funeral Services, Friday at 11 AM, at his church, 631 W. Commercial Ave., Lowell.  Burial will follow in Lowell Memorial Cemetery.

Obituary :  John Gordon Ebert III

On Saturday, October 9th the Lord called John G. Ebert III, Diane's knight in shining armor, home to join His army. John had a strong faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of The Naples Gathering church. Although he is now absent from the body, he is present with the Lord.

 

John was born September 20, 1940 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. During the past several years, he fought a very difficult, yet incredibly courageous battle with cancer.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elenora Ebert.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one and half years, Diane; his two children, John (Patty) Ebert IV and Brett (Anita) Ebert; five grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Ebert V, Amanda Ebert, Rachel (Josh Pederson) Ebert, Ethan Ebert and Blake Ebert; and one great grandchild, Emma Ebert.

 

John began his career as an airline pilot with North Central Airlines in 1968. He continued with Republic Airlines and finished his thirty-three and half year career as a pilot for Northwest Airlines. Over the years, he enjoyed general aviation flying, boating and golf. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

 

Private interment at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN followed by a Celebration of Life 11:30am Saturday, October 23rd at David Fong's restaurant in Bloomington, MN.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to The Naples Gathering church, the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
