Military veteran, DL Capt. Jack E. T. Saux II

The family of Capt. Jack Saux sends us this sad news of the loss
in their family…..word with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Jack
Emile Saux II, age 77. Captain Saux
joined Delta Air Lines 01-06-1969 and was based DFW and MSY. He is survived by his wife Yvonne, his
children and grandchildren, plus many other close friends, family members and
aviation colleagues. Friends write: “Retired
DAL Capt. Jack Saux died 28 Jan 2020. He spent most of his career flying out of
the MSY base where he was born and grew up.
Jack was in intensive care at the St Tammany hospital.”
The family writes that a Celebration of Life event is
planned for Monday, February 3, 2020 at the Immaculate Conception Jesuit
Church, 130 Baronne St., New Orleans, Louisiana …..please see all information

On January 28, 2020, Jack Saux, after more than 77 years’
entertaining family, friends and always himself, has taken his sense of humor
and personality to the next level of existence, the greatest venue of all.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne Graffagnino
Saux, whom he met in 8th grade. Their over-fifty years of marriage were blessed
by three children, Jack III, MD, Jennifer Saux Perry, and Stephanie Saux
Desjardins, and the addition of nine wonderful grandchildren, Margret, Paul
Jack, Virginia Claire, Isabella, Ben, Stephen, Dominic, Thomas Jack, and
Michael. All featured prominently in Jack’s favorite stories of family
adventures and events.
Jack’s life, while filled with humor, was also punctuated by
service to his family, friends, country, and Church.
After graduation from Jesuit High School in New Orleans and
the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Jack was a pilot in the *U.S. Air
Force for five and half years, including a year tour in Viet Nam. During that
service, he was awarded two Air Medals, an Air Force Commendation Medal, a
handful of Vietnamese decorations, and was the not-so-proud recipient of a
unique foot fungus.
After the military, Jack’s next career step was as a pilot
with one of the nation’s major airlines. He flew for that company for 27 years,
17 years domestically and 10 years on international routes. His favorite
aircraft was the DC-9. While flying the line he also served 10 years as Chairman
of the local pilots’ union and 4 years as an Executive Vice President of the
national union.
Jack’s early retirement from the airline allowed him to
devote time to writing and publishing six of his novels. In payback for the
wonderful life he was given, he volunteered in service at Jesuit Church on
Baronne Street. He served as Chair of the Parish Council for over 10 years.
Katrina came during that time, and the trunk of Jack’s car
became the parish office as he, Fr. Ron Boudreaux S.J. and Bro. Walter Eckler,
S.J. worked to repair the damage to the 160-year-old building. He also served
on the Board of Directors of the Harry Tompson Center, a social outreach to the
homeless, from its beginning until his death.
During these years of retirement and volunteering, his
former airline declared bankruptcy and his pension was cut by 95%. Jack
returned to the workforce, once again in service to others, selling real estate
with Engle and Volkers’ Realtors, adding many clients and other realtors to his
long list of friends.
A celebration of a life filled with love, service, and
commitment, interspersed with vast periods of laughter will be held at
Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church, 130 Baronne St., New Orleans, LA on
Monday, February 3, 2020. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm – 2:30pm. The rosary
will be recited at 2:30pm. Followed by Mass at 3:00pm. Private burial at a
later date at USNA.

JACK EMILE SAUX, JR.

Jack, a true rebel, came to the Naval Academy
straight from Jesuit High with a determination to "set the place
straight" in his mind. Although he never quite succeeded in doing so, he
never gave up his attempts. Academics were no trouble for Jack, and although
his grades were better than average, he still found time to devote to the LOG,
the Lucky Bag, and sailing. Not one to forget about the finer things in life,
Jack is known for being a connoisseur of wine, women, and song, and he can
always be counted upon to take part in any merrymaking which may arise. Jack's
dreams for the future are housed around "jockeying a jet." We all
know that regardless of the game he plays, Jack can be counted on to come out a
winner.

After graduation, and I was one of the ones who
switched to USAF, Yvonne and I went to flight school in Lubbock Texas, spent
two years hauling trash over the Pacific, a year in Vietnam, and a year as a
flight instructor before leaving the service for the airlines.
I flew for an airline for 27 years and took an
early retirement to devote time to writing.
I have had two novels published, one as an
ebook and one in paperback, third due out this fall.
We have three children and nine grandchildren
and still live in the New Orleans area.
