News with the passing of retired Delta
pilot Capt. Tom Spencer has reached us. He was 72 years of age at the time of
his passing on January 12th. Captain Thomas Robert Spencer joined Delta Air
Lines 10-16-1972 and was based most if not all of his career in Atlanta. He is
survived by his wife Linda and their children (son Scott is a First Officer with
Delta... FO 717 LINE PILOT, based 030/ATL).

Services for Captain Spencer will be held this Saturday, January 16th in Chapin,
South Carolina.

15, 1943 - January 12, 2016
Thomas “Tom” Robert Spencer, 72, of Irmo, died Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge.
A
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 16,
2016, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin, South Carolina by the
Rev. Andrew J. Vollkommer. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Tom
was born on November 15, 1943, in Jackson, MS, the son of the late Thomas
Herbert Spencer and Catherine “Kathy” Bernadette Murphy Spencer.
Tom
served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War, achieving the rank of
Captain. He was a Forward Air Controller and flew the O1E Birddog.
Following
his service career, he worked as a pilot for thirty-one years with Delta
Airlines. Tom started with Delta in October of 1972 and retired in September of
2003. During his career he crewed the Convair 880, B727, B757, B767, B777, DC-8,
DC-9, L-1011,& MD-11. He also enjoyed some time in the training department
as a DC-9 and B757/767 instructor pilot.
He
was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin. Enjoyment for
Tom was puttering in his workshop and building things for his grandchildren. He
loved college football, especially the Auburn Tigers, and was a great dog sitter
who enjoyed spending time walking his grand dogs. Tom was a very generous man
and most loving and caring of his family.
He
is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Linda Rae Spencer; daughter,
Melissa Lynn Moosbrugger (Matt) of Irmo; son, Scott Thomas Spencer (Kim) of
Auburn, AL; granddaughters, Meghan, Madelyn, Mary, Mallory, and Monica
Moosbrugger; and grand dogs, Aubie, Cammie and Lexie
The
family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude
Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
