DL Capt. James Leroy Shannon

WWII veteran, DL Capt. James ‘Jim’ Shannon
November 20, 1920 ~ May 25, 2017
 
Word has been received with the passing of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta pilot Captain James ‘Jim’ Leroy Shannon, age 96.  Captain Shannon joined Delta Air Lines 01-22-1951 and retired with Delta in 1980, based MSY.  Captain Shannon was widowed in March of 2011 with the passing of his wife Barbara.  Survived by his children, grand and great grandchildren, Captain Shannon had most recently resided in the Houston TX area.

Obituary..............................
James Leroy Shannon, 96, born November 18, 1920, to Elroy and Nora Shannon of Jamestown, New York, passed away May 25, 2017. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jim proudly served in WWII as a pilot, receiving decorations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star, two Air Medals, and several campaign ribbons. Flying was his lifelong passion, becoming a pilot for Delta Airlines until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara and son, Jim. He is survived by his children John Shannon and wife Haldi and Mike Shannon and wife Tracy; grandchildren Samantha Colquitt and husband Keith, Kel Shannon, Austin and Sydney Shannon; and great grandchildren Lucy and Bryan Colquitt.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway.

BARBARA LUCKY SHANNON, 76, passed away on March 17, 2011. A native Houstonian, Barbara was born November 2, 1934, to Maurice and Gertrude Lucky. She graduated from Lamar High School and attended college in Virginia. Barbara was a vibrant, fun-loving woman who was completely devoted to her family, friends and church, Chapelwood United Methodist Church, where she and her husband have been members and where she has served as a volunteer for 35 years. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and reading the latest and greatest novels. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, James L. Shannon; son John M. Shannon and his wife Haldi; son Michael M. Shannon and his wife Tracy; and grandchildren Samantha Colquitt and her husband Keith, Kel Shannon, Austin Shannon and Sydney Shannon, all of whom affectionately knew her as "Gaga." Barbara is also survived by her brother Charles Lucky of Arizona. She is preceded in death by her parents and son James Leroy Shannon, "Jimbo." The family would like to thank Connie Castro for her years of above-and-beyond service, care and friendship..........................
