___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

NC/NWA Capt. Roy W. Nordstrom

~ IN MEMORY ~

NC/NWA Capt. Roy W. Nordstrom

July 30, 1934 ~ December ? , 2020

From the March issue of the ALPA magazine’s In Memoriam Column, we learn of the passing of retired Northwest Airlines pilot Captain Roy Wieland Nordstrom, age 86.  I was not able to locate an online obituary for Roy but please see below the other details that I could find.

From this online site  https://airandspace.si.edu/support/wall-of-honor/capt-roy-nordstrom  we learn that Captain Nordstrom first joined North Central Airlines in 1958 and then retired with Northwest :  “His 40+ year career began with instructing in Piper Cubs at Harlem Airport in Chicago. He then went on to fly for Slick Airways in the C-46 and DC-4, with a move to North Central Airlines in 1958. There he flew and was type-rated in the DC-3, Convair 240, 340, A440 (580), DC-9, and 727.  North Central the merged with Northwest Airlines where he continued to fly the 727 and retired on the Airbus 320.”

To the best of my knowledge, Roy was born/raised in Illinois and had most recently resided in Sycamore, Illinois near his son John.  I believe Roy was widowed in October of 2010 with the passing of his wife and former Eastern Airlines stewardess Pamala Rae West Nordstrom.

If anyone has additional information and/or corrections to share, please do let us know.

Thank you,

~ Carol for the PCN
