Military veteran, SO/NWA Capt. Ervil Lester Vogel

June 10, 1933 – March 7, 2021

 


Notification with the passing of retired Southern Airways/Northwest pilot Captain Ervil ‘Erv’ Lester Vogel, age 87.  Widowed in May of 2019, Captain Vogel is survived by his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.

Obituary  : Ervil "Erv" Lester Vogel passed away at the age of 87. Ervil was born on June 10, 1933 in Wall Lake, Iowa to Lester and Matilda Vogel. He served first in the Army, and then in the Air Force, until 1954. He became a pilot in the Air Force, and after leaving the military, embarked on a career as a commercial pilot, attaining the rank of captain. He flew for many years for Southern Airways (now Delta Airlines) which resulted in the move of his young family to the New Orleans area. Upon his retirement after a decorated career of flying for over 45 years for the airlines, he began a second career as a charter pilot for numerous Louisiana businesses. When not flying, Erv loved hunting and fishing and spending time at his camp in Mississippi. Erv was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn, and his mother and father. He is survived by his five children, Mark Vogel and his wife Rachel; Michael Vogel and his wife Eileen; Julie Vernotzy and her husband Douglas; Lisa Vogel; and Linda Rozas, and her husband Barry. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at E.J. Fielding in Covington at 10:00 am.

Evelyn Buxton Vogel

November 21, 1933 - May 10, 2019

Obituary for Evelyn Buxton Vogel  :  A devoted wife and mother, gifted baker, lover of puzzles and crafting, Evelyn Buxton Vogel, 85, died Friday, May 10, 2019.  Evelyn was born on November 21, 1933 in Warrenton, Missouri, but for most of her adult life resided in Kenner, Louisiana. She graduated from Lake View High School, in Lake View, Iowa, married Ervil Vogel of Wall Lake, Iowa, and the couple settled in Kenner, Louisiana.

Evelyn loved word puzzles of any kind, westerns, and classic mystery television shows. She also loved giving back to the community that helped her raise her family, including hand making gifts for all of her children’s schools. Each holiday at the Vogel household also brought the anticipation and promise of sampling her wonderful treats and sweets.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband, Ervil Lester Vogel; her two sisters, Opal Simon and Shirley Bickford; two sons, Mark Vogel and his wife Rachel of Kenner, Michael Vogel and his wife Eileen of Kenner; three daughters, Julie Vogel Vernotzy and her husband Doug of Metairie, Lisa Marie Vogel of New Orleans, and Linda Vogel Rozas and her husband Barry of Lafayette…………………….
