___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Obituary  :  David Ned Lucas, 81, passed away on March 21, 2022 at Emory University Hospital. He was born February 14, 1941, in Roswell, New Mexico, the son of Ned Laverne and Rita Pearl (Bay) Lucas.

David graduated from Wheatridge High School, class of 1959. Following his graduation from high school, David joined the United States Navy with a Navy Scholarship, where he served for five years and seven months, to include serving in Vietnam. After completing his active-duty David joined the United States Navy Reserves and attended the University of Colorado where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and Physics.

On August 2, 1965, David met his wife-to-be of 56 years, Carol Lucas, on board the Lexington Aircraft Carrier. In 1968, David received the Air Medal Award from the US Navy for his time and actions during the Vietnam War. David flew commercial and passenger airplanes for Delta Airlines until his retirement in 1997. Throughout David’s life he was an avid boy scout and Eagle scout, to include mentoring young children throughout his adult life. He loved more than anything to camp, hike whatever mountain he was near, ski down any hill he could find; and in his later years just enjoy the beach, the sun and spending time with his family. David was known to take on any adventure he could whether it was alone, with friends or with family.

In addition to his parents; he was predeceased by his son, Brian Arnold Lucas. Surviving in addition to his wife, Carol Lucas, are his daughters, Amanda Darr and her husband Joel, of Golden, Colorado, Anita Lucas of Decatur Georgia, three grandchildren, Madelyn Darr, Melanie Darr and Lucas Dykstra; one brother Steven Lucas and his wife Penny Lucas of Arizona.
