From friends and colleagues comes this news with the passing of retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Dennis Adrian DeGuire, age 81.  Captain DeGuire joined Delta Air Lines 02-14-1966 and was based DFW, then PDX/030 prior to retiring.  Dennnis is survived by his wife Merry, and by his children and their families.

Obituary :  Mr. Dennis A DeGuire

COLLEYVILLE, TEXAS - Dennis A. DeGuire, a retired airline captain and resident of Northeast Tarrant County for over 57 years, passed away Friday, March 3rd, 2023.

A visitation for Dennis will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 COLLEYVILLE BLVD, COLLEYVILLE, TX 76034. Respectfully, a private burial will ensue following the visitation.

Dennis was born in Browning, Montana, and grew up in Bremerton, Washington. He graduated from Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, WA where he starred in golf, basketball, baseball and football. After high school, Dennis married his sweetheart Merry and elected to attend flight school at Boeing Field in Seattle where he earned his first pilot’s license. He began his flying career as a pilot with Zantop Air Transport flying freight out of San Francisco, CA. Dennis was hired by Delta Airlines on 2/14/1966 and moved from San Francisco to the DFW area where he was based. He flew for Delta for 31 years ending his career as a captain on the MD-11 flying international routes out of Portland, OR. Dennis was an avid golfer with numerous club championships. Dennis loved to coach each of his four boys as well as his grandchildren in various sports. He was a co-founder of Little Dribblers Basketball, a national organization, and was President of the association for several years.

 

Dennis had many accolades throughout his career, but he was most proud of the family that he created with 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. “Many men can make a fortune, but very few can build a family.”- J. S. Bryan

 

Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Merry DeGuire; Son Derek DeGuire and wife Carolyn of Argyle, TX; Son Darren DeGuire and wife Christina of Chico, TX; Son Dana DeGuire and wife Susan of Keller, TX; Son Dwane DeGuire and fiance Katie Coffey of Chico, TX; Grandchildren, Dustin DeGuire, Austin DeGuire, Madison Parkey, Madeleine DeGuire, Dillon DeGuire, Katherine Haddock, Dalton DeGuire, and Luke DeGuire; Great-grandchild Holly Haddock; Sister Donna Joy of Mesa, AZ; Sister Jeanine Johnson of Seattle, WA; Sister Verla Cook of Seattle, WA; Brother Dallas DeGuire of Seattle, WA.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Clarence DeGuire of Bremerton, WA.
