Obituary for Billy Paul Current
Bill Current of Bloomington, MN passed away
unexpectedly on October 17th, 2023 at the age of 83. Bill was the youngest
child of 3, born to William and Bertha Current in Harrisonville MO.
After graduating Bill became a high school physics
teacher in Missouri, but his ultimate passion of flying was still calling. In
1967 Bill become a commercial pilot based out of Minnesota. He had a 32 year
career with Northwest Airlines, ultimately becoming a captain of the 757. He
said the 757’s were his favorite plane to fly because they were more
technologically advanced compared to the other planes at that time, and he
really liked the oversized engines that ‘threw you back in your seat’.
But his most notable accomplishments that he would
want shared, are the hole in one and the double eagle he pulled off over the
course of his golfing ‘career’. Golf was a sport he had a strong love/hate
relationship with, but at the end of the day there was no other place he wanted
to be, but on the golf course.
In 1968 Bill met the love of his life, Kathy, at
the old Eddie Webster’s in Bloomington MN. He just happened to stop in on his
way home from the airport one night, and Kathy just happened to be there to
watch her best friend’s dad play piano. They married after a 3 year courtship
and were each other’s rock for the last 53 years
Bill’s companionship, generosity and of course dry
wit will be greatly missed. As he always said when doing any work that required
a step ladder, ‘I never knew my real ladder’.
Bill is preceded in death by parents, William Paul
and Bertha; and sisters Patty and Betty. Survived by loving wife Kathy;
children Jeff and Cheryl (Jesse) and grandson, Cody.
