Navy veteran, DL Capt. John Evans McDonald

October 22, 1928 ~ December 13, 2023

 

We note the passing of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain John Evans McDonald, age 95.  John joined Delta Air Lines 06-03-1957 and retired with Delta in 1988.  Widowed in 2016 with the passing of his wife Millie, John is survived by his daughters and their families.

John McDonald Obituary

John Evans McDonald, retired pilot of Delta Air Lines and the US Navy made his final take-off from Planet Earth on December 13, 2023. He enjoyed a long and happy life of watching the world from the best seat in the house . . . the cockpit of an airplane.

 

John entered the Navy in 1947, earned his Wings of Gold in December 1948 and was released to the Navy Reserve in 1950. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1953 and the Chrysler Institute of Engineering in 1955. He joined Delta Air Lines in 1957. He retired from the Navy Reserve in 1972 and Delta Air Lines in 1988.

 

John grew up in Ashburn, GA. He married his wife, Millie, formerly Mildred Pilch of Chicago, in 1953. They were married for 63 years and had four daughters: Susan McDonald of Huntsville, AL (Carlos Carvajal); Karen Nash, of Jonesboro, GA (Bob Nash); Janet McDonald, of Atlanta, and Lisa McNamee, of Huntsville, AL (David McNamee). John is survived by three daughters, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
