___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our PCN Flight West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Beloved sister, aunt and friend, Arlene Penhallegon passed away at the age of 89 after a brief illness. Heaven has received another cowgirl to liven things up!

Born May 13, 1935 in Havre, Montana. Arlene was raised in Chinook and loved riding on her grandfather’s and neighbors’ ranches. Horses and art were the love and light of her life.

A graduate of Chinook High in 1953, she attended Great Falls Commercial College and worked at the Havre Daily News. In 1958 she trained at NW Airline School then worked for Western Airlines (now Delta) as a Senior Dispatch Clerk in Salt Lake City – her day job. On her off hours, Arlene was a wonderful western artist and lover of art, studying under some of the best artists of her time, and producing a wide array of beautiful pieces some of which are still on display at the Cornville Post Office.

In 1966, she married Captain Harold Wade Penhallegon and they lived in Huntington Beach and Big Bear City, California where Arlene continued to paint and sculpt horses.

They retired to Cornville in 1980 and Wade passed in 1984. In 1983 Arlene’s mother Anne moved a few houses away where they lived as neighbors until Anne’s death in 2009. Arlene remained in Cornville until her death and was an avid Cornville Ditch member, ditch walker and board member until 2013.

Arlene is preceded in death by her husband Wade, brother Roger Doney, sister-in-law Helene Doney and niece Carolyn Doney. She is survived by niece Lauryn Doney Rice, nephews Michael and John Doney, half-siblings; Roba Doney Strandel, Brent Doney, Brad Doney, and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

At Arlene’s request no funeral service is planned, however the family will host a gathering to honor and celebrate their beloved aunt and sister this Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: TLC Sanctuary (tlcsanctuary.org), PO Box 152 Cornville, AZ 86325.
