Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Obituary for Marion "Marni" Ruth Ryan

Marion “Marni” Ruth Ryan of Rye, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 22, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Born in Lawrence, MA, on August 26, 1931, Marni was the daughter of the late Warren and Marion (Scott) Young. She was raised and educated in Methuen, MA. She graduated from The Edward F. Searles High School in 1949 and was drawn to the arts, singing and acting in plays. Her motto, “Happy am I, from care I am free, why aren’t they all contented like me?” held true throughout her life. She was known for her dry wit, ready sense of humor, happy smile and as always a stylish dresser.

Marni then attended Vesper George School of Art in Boston, MA where her focus was on Water Colors and Interior Design.

She met the love of her life, Frank Ryan, while walking home after working at her mother's card shop in Lawrence. He invited her to a Boston College football game where he was a student.  They were married at St. Laurence Church on August 28, 1950.

Frank was assigned to the Army Base at Fort Benning, GA. There, Marni worked at Kirven’s Department Store. They returned back to Lawrence, MA in 1952.

Marni's heart was as big as her personality. She was a dynamic, eclectic force with an affinity for the “Bohemian,” as she was one herself. She loved to host parties having as many people around her as possible. Marni started a bowling league with her friends, was a former member of The Beach Club and was active at the Franciscan Friary which was across the street from their home. She volunteered her time at New Generation in Greenland, NH.

Marni always loved helping people, especially those less fortunate. Marni often would bring strangers who needed a helping hand into her home, sometimes staying for years. Marni was a giver and she touched the lives of so many people!

Marni and Frank were married for 58 years, until Frank’s passing in 2008.

Marni is survived by her five children.  Suzanne Knowlton and her husband Laurence of Rye Beach, NH, Mark Ryan of San Diego, CA, Lisa Stratos and her husband Philip of North Hampton, NH, John Ryan and his wife Kimberly of Jupiter, FL, and Tara Webb and her husband Mark of Rye, NH.
