Michael James Larson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in Edgewood, Kentucky. Born on December 27, 1944, in Hawthorne, California, he dedicated his life to both his country and his family.

 

A distinguished veteran, Michael served in the United States Marine Corps, where he was proud to be a Vietnam veteran and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. His military career as a pilot spanned two decades, during which he flew the last A-4 squadron at Cherry Point, North Carolina. Following his service, he transitioned to civilian aviation, becoming a pilot with Northwest Airlines, which later merged with Delta Airlines, and enjoyed another successful 20-year career.

 

Michael was respected not only for his professional achievements but also for the values he instilled in his family. He was a great provider and a wonderful husband, always ensuring that his wife, Diane Larson (née Fletcher), was well taken care of. Michael was intensely supportive of his daughter, Candace Meese, and fueled her education, acting as an encouraging father who was a driving force in her success in life. He cherished his family deeply, particularly his grandchildren: Oliver, Lorelei, Ashton, Taylor, Sasha, Emily, and Hayley, along with his great-grandchildren, Braden, Skyler, and Charlotte.

 

Beyond his professional pursuits and family commitments, Michael was a man of simple pleasures. He enjoyed woodworking and found joy in spending time at home on his tractor. His love extended to his loyal dog, Lulu, adding warmth to his family life.

 

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Diane; daughter, Candace Meese; step-daughter, Dawn (Bryon) Beteag; step-son, Todd Easterling; grandchildren, Oliver, Lorelei, Ashton, Taylor, Sasha, Emily, and Hayley; great-grandchildren, Braden, Skyler, and Charlotte; and a host of other family members and friends who will remember him fondly.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Larson; mother, Frances Larson (née Kehling); and brother, Ole Larson. Michael's legacy of love, dedication, and service will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

 

In keeping with Michael's wishes, there will be no funeral services held. His cremated remains will be placed at Kentucky Veteran's Cemetery North in Williamstown, Kentucky.
