Edwin DuPont Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bridges Funeral Home on
Apr. 17, 2026.
Captain Edwin R. DuPont - age 49, of Seymour, TN passed
away on April 13, 2026.
"I cannot promise you it will be perfect, but I promise it will be an
adventure. Some days we will be drinking straight from a water hose, and some
days we will be drinking champagne straight out of the bottle."
The family of Edwin Robbins "Rory" DuPont, Jr. is deeply saddened to
announce his passing on April 13, 2026. Rory was born on February 14th, 1977,
in Jacksonville, Florida to Edwin R. DuPont, Sr. and Blanche Burt DuPont. Rory
is a 3rd generation Naval Aviator. He met his wife of almost 25 years at the
University of Florida in 1997 and they married on December 29, 2001. Rory
received his commission as an officer in 2000 and continued to serve until he
passed away as a Captain in the Naval Reserve. A US Naval Aviator, Fighter
Pilot, and graduate of TOPGUN, Rory flew the F/A-18, F-5, and T-45 as an
instructor pilot over multiple combat tours and aircraft carrier deployments.
In 2012, he and his family moved to Bogotá, Colombia for a short time to work
for the American Embassy in Diplomatic Affairs. In 2013, in order to focus more
on family, Rory joined the Naval Reserve and began work as a performance
consultant & business development lead for Latin America at Check-6 Int'l,
Inc. Meanwhile, Rory continued flying and pursuing his Naval career with
multiple command tours, to include Commanding Officer of Fighter Composite
Squadron 111 in Key West, FL (2018), Commander of Training Air Wing One Reserve
in Meridian, MS (2020), and as Commander of the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development
Center Reserve in Fallon, NV (2022). He also flew for Delta Air Lines as an
international Airbus 350 pilot and supported the family business as chief pilot
of Rocky Top Aviation, LLC flight school in Knoxville, TN.
In addition to his extensive career ambitions, Rory was a member of the Knights
of Columbus, Troops of St. George, and a Captain in Fraternus. His work with
Delta allowed him to travel all over the world, often with his family in tow,
and participate in the international community of the faithful, observing
firsthand their beautiful works. Despite a wide breadth of commitments and
activities, Rory was passionate about putting his faith at the forefront of all
that he did both individually and with his family. He will always be remembered
for his never ending zest for squeezing the life out of life every single day
and quick, witty sense of humor. When faced with difficulty or adversity, he
quickly quipped his motto, "Just another adventure!" which
immediately became his and Carolina's family motto. A true and proudly devoted
family man, Rory deeply loved and lived for his family. Some of his favorite
family activities were traveling, hiking the Smokies, flying, hunting, camping,
fishing, and cooking.
Rory is survived by his wife and children, Carolina, John Andrew, Madeleine
Isabel, and Rhett Thomas DuPont.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 23,
2026 at Bridges Funeral Home. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass
will be held at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville on
Friday, April 24, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross
Cemetery.
