Vernon Kennedy Kimbrough Jr., age 85, passed away
on April 14, 2026. He was born on November 27, 1940, in Mississippi, to Vernon
K. Kimbrough Sr. and Bessie Kimbrough.
In 1961, Vernon entered the United States Air
Force, where he later served as a flight instructor in Germany, training
members of the Luftwaffe. He achieved the rank of Captain before his honorable
separation in 1969. He then attended Mississippi State University, earning a
degree in Agricultural Science. Following his service, he began a 30-year
career with Delta Air Lines, retiring as a Captain flying Boeing 757/767
aircraft.
Vernon is survived by his beloved wife of 49
years, Ann Robinson Kimbrough; his children, Kimberly Lee Wilcox (Davis Wilcox)
of Sikeston, Missouri; Gypsie Kimbrough Stewart of Newnan, Georgia; Jillson
Kimbrough Chester (Matthew Chester) of Newnan, Georgia; and Vernon Kennedy
Kimbrough III (Lori Kimbrough) of Newnan, Georgia; his grandchildren, Kaley
Wilcox Simcoe (Eric Simcoe), Kameron Wilcox Cooper (Dave Cooper), Tyler and
Alycee Stewart, Aiden, Riley, and Emma Chester, Chance Kimbrough (Kaela
Kimbrough), and Sydney Kimbrough Fields (Jacob Fields); and his
great-grandchildren, Lawson and Camille Simcoe, and Carson and Oliver
Kimbrough.
Vernon will be remembered for his dedication to
his family, his service to his country, and his lifelong passion for flying, as
well as the wisdom and love he shared with those closest to him..
