Captain Whitsett joined Delta Air Lines 07-03-1967 and retired December 1995, based 030/DFW.  He is survived by his wife Monette.

Charles J. Whitsett, 79 of Friendswood, TX passed away on November 3, 2015. He was born in Tulia, TX in 1935 to Jewel and Electa Whitsett. Charles is preceded in death by his parents Jewel and Electa Whitsett, his son Stephen Whitsett, and nephew Jimmy Fox.
Charles attended school in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School where he met the love of his life, Monette Andrus. He graduated from Baylor University where he majored in accounting, and was a member of Air Force ROTC. After graduating from college he joined the Air Force to pursue his lifelong dream to be a pilot. After serving in the Air Force for nine years as a fighter pilot he left active duty to fly for Delta Airlines. He continued his military career in the Texas Air National Guard at Ellington AFB, Houston, TX, retiring after 31 years of military service. His airline career with Delta Airlines spanned 28 years. Upon retirement he began to do volunteer work for the schools that his grandchildren attended in the Clear Creek Independent School District. He and Monette enjoyed traveling with family and friends abroad and as well as in the United States.
He is survived by Monette Whitsett, his wife of 59 years; daughter Jana and husband Joe Vaughn of Tulia, TX; two sisters, Alta Fox and husband Alvin, of Tulia and Doris Watson of Arlington, TX; three grandchildren, Ryan Maney and wife Monica of Shanghai, China; Crystal Bouma and husband Waylon of Friendswood, TX; and Justin Whitsett also of Friendswood, TX; three great-grandchildren that made his eyes sparkle whenever they were around. They are Sierra and Cora Maney of Shanghai, China, and Wade Bouma of Friendswood, TX. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, numerous other family members, and cherished friends.
Charles will be remembered for his humor, empathy, and for taking care of his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday November 7, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX. There will be a Visitation on November 11thfrom 5:30pm – 7:00pm at Kornerstone Funeral Home in Tulia TX. A graveside service will be held November 12, 2015 at 2:00pm at Rosehill Cemetery in Tulia, TX.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tulia Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 116, Tulia, TX 79088; The American Heart Association, P. O. Box 841125, Dallas Texas 75284; or a charity of your choice.
